Coinum FAQ

1. What is the app?

Coinum is a mobile application that helps you identify coins using artificial intelligence. Simply take a photo (or upload an existing image) of a coin, and the app will analyze it to provide the most likely match, an AI-generated description, and additional reference images of similar coins.

2. How does coin identification work?

Our AI-powered algorithm analyzes visual features of your coin photo—such as inscriptions, portrait/symbols, denomination, country, year, mint mark (when visible), edge details, and overall design—to match it against a large coin reference database. The app then suggests the most probable match and provides a detailed AI-generated description.

3. What kind of photos should I use for the best results?

For the most accurate identification, use clear, well-lit photos where the coin fills most of the frame and the text is readable. Avoid blur, glare, and heavy shadows. If possible, capture both sides (obverse and reverse) and keep the camera parallel to the coin.

4. Can I upload photos from my gallery?

Yes! You can either take a new photo directly in the app or upload an existing image from your device’s gallery for identification.

5. How accurate are the identification results?

Coinum uses advanced AI algorithms and a large coin reference database to provide accurate results in most cases. However, identification is not always perfect—especially for heavily worn coins, unusual varieties, private tokens/medals, or coins photographed in poor lighting. Please use results as a helpful guide and consult a qualified numismatist or grading service for critical decisions.

6. What information will I get about the coin?

For each identified coin, you may receive an AI-generated description, country/region, denomination, year (when detectable), likely composition, notable design details, and additional reference images to help you compare and learn more. Value estimates (if shown) are informational only and can vary widely based on condition, variety, demand, and authenticity.

7. Is my photo or data stored or shared?

Your privacy is important to us. When you use the app, your photo is securely sent to a third-party service for identification purposes. Additionally, we store the photos you provide so that you can conveniently view your identification history within the app. You can delete your history and associated photos at any time through the app’s interface. We do not share your photos with any other parties beyond what is necessary for coin identification. Please see our Privacy Policy for more details.

8. Can I use the app offline?

Coinum requires an internet connection to process images and access the coin reference database. Offline identification is not currently supported.

9. What should I do if the app cannot identify my coin?

If the app cannot confidently identify your coin, try taking clearer photos (ideally of both sides), improving lighting, and minimizing reflections. You can also use the app’s suggestions to explore similar matches or consult a numismatist for further assistance.

10. Who creates the coin descriptions?

Coin descriptions in the app are generated by artificial intelligence based on reference information and structured data sources.
