Medalium is a mobile application that helps you identify medals using artificial intelligence. Simply take a photo (or upload an existing image) of a medal, and the app will analyze it to provide the most likely match, an AI-generated description, and additional reference images of similar medals.
Our AI-powered algorithm analyzes visual features of your medal photo—such as country of origin, era, type, design motif, inscriptions, metal composition, shape, size, and overall appearance—to match it against a large medal reference database. The app then suggests the most probable match and provides a detailed AI-generated description.
For the most accurate identification, use clear, well-lit photos where the medal lies flat and fills most of the frame. Make sure any inscriptions and design details are fully visible and avoid blur, glare, and heavy shadows. If possible, capture both sides (obverse and reverse) and keep the camera parallel to the medal for the sharpest image.
Yes! You can either take a new photo directly in the app or upload an existing image of a medal from your device's gallery for identification.
Medalium uses advanced AI algorithms and a large medal reference database to provide accurate results in most cases. However, identification is not always perfect—especially for damaged or heavily worn medals, very old or rare varieties, or medals photographed in poor lighting. Please use results as a helpful guide and consult a qualified numismatist or medal dealer for critical decisions.
For each identified medal, you may receive an AI-generated description, country of origin, era, type, design theme, metal composition, catalog references, and additional reference images to help you compare and learn more. Value estimates (if shown) are informational only and can vary widely based on condition, rarity, historical significance, and demand.
Your privacy is important to us. When you use the app, your photo is securely sent to a third-party service for identification purposes. Additionally, we store the photos you provide so that you can conveniently view your identification history within the app. You can delete your history and associated photos at any time through the app's interface. We do not share your photos with any other parties beyond what is necessary for medal identification. Please see our Privacy Policy for more details.
Medalium requires an internet connection to process images and access the medal reference database. Offline identification is not currently supported.
If the app cannot confidently identify your medal, try taking clearer photos (ideally of both sides), improving lighting, and ensuring all inscriptions and design details are fully visible in the frame. You can also use the app's suggestions to explore similar matches or consult a numismatist or medal catalog for further assistance.
Medal descriptions in the app are generated by artificial intelligence based on reference information and structured data sources.
Premium includes unlimited medal identifications for normal personal use—unlike the free version, there is no small daily quota. To keep the service reliable for everyone and to protect it from automated abuse, a fair-use safeguard of 100 identifications per 24-hour period applies, as described in our Terms of Use. This is far more than typical everyday use, so you are unlikely to ever notice it.
